The Dead Rift Valley offers a multitude of opportunities for canyoning with deep gorges cutting down the mountains from a height of 1700 m to 400 meters below sea level. The Dead Sea Rift wadis have waterfalls and hot and cold springs and hanging vegetation and palm gardens. They also traverse varying geological formations. Canyoning in Jordan is a new sport that is increasingly popular.
Below is a sample program. We have many more programs or we can customize an itinerary to your specific requirements. Contact us for details.
Spend the first 3 days discovering multi-coloured canyons in the Rift Valley. There are multiple possibilities including canyons with 60 meter waterfalls, sandstone passageways decorated with hanging ferns and basalt rock formations intertwined with palm gardens.
Spend the day exploring the magnificent Red Rose city of Petra. Walk down the dramatic "siq" or canyon. See the Treasury, carved in the pink stone, and continue past the Roman theatre, the Corinthian Tomb and Palace Tomb to the Roman road. Continue up to the Monastery and the viewpoint over the Araba Valley to the west. Return via the Siq or hike via the narrow Wadi Muthlim and ancient carved tunnel. Overnight in Petra.
We leave Petra to head to the desert landscape of Wadi Rum, of T.E. Lawrence fame and described by him as “Vast, echoing and God-like”. Once we arrive at the visitors centre we leave our coach with 4 wheel drive jeeps with the local Bedouins for a day of exploration. We will have a short walk through a canyon and over a sand dune, enjoying the desert scenery and quiet. Overnight camp under the stars in a Bedouin camp.
Leave Rum to head to Aqaba on the Red Sea. You have a variety of options to spend the day – snorkelling, diving, swimming, windsurfing, and much more; or spend it relaxing on the beach. Overnight in Aqaba.
