Hiking

image

Visiting Jordan by foot is a different experience. It gets you to areas where the coach tourist does not reach, away from the crowds and to the authentic Jordan. In Petra you will leave the tourists behind with the hawkers and sellers and hike into a quiet area which is untouched from the times of the Nabateans. In the mountains you will come across the Bedouin who will invite you to a cup of tea and a chat. In the hills of Ajloun you will see the peasants ploughing the land with his horse.

The hikes are day hikes using either hotels or camps as a base. It is a wonderful way to discover a wondrous country.

Family Adventure

image

Jordan has no shortage of places to discover and explore for families. In vacations, weekends, or days off I head out with my wife and two children to new places. We have taken our children from when they were a few months old on our adventures. We especially enjoy meeting the families of our Bedouin friends in Wadi Rum for some camping and hiking. Or walks in the north of Jordan in the spring with the hills carpeted with flowers. Or taking friends with children on a donkey trek in the mountains around Petra. Or having a day out in a natural ‘water park’ – one of the Dead Sea Rift wadis and canyons with hot springs and a stream through it.

These activities bring us closer together as a family, stimulate interesting conversations with our children, and encourage them to explore and question our world. It is a real life education for our children and us.

We encourage you to experience the country “en famille”.

North Jordan

image

Northern Jordan – the area from Jerash to the Syrian border – is the most fertile region of Jordan. Decorated with rolling hills and long wadis, the north mainly consists of agriculture land, olive groves and forests. Springs abound, and streams flow through the valleys from fall through spring. The countryside is sometimes reminiscent of Tuscany and is especially beautiful in the spring with its carpets of wildflowers.

It is this area that is also rich in Roman cities such as the Decapolis of Jerash, Um Qais, Pella; as well as the castle of Ajloun.

The north has missed the tourist development achieved in the south of Jordan. The few hotels that exist are small family run establishments and relatively few tourists visit outside the main sites of Jerash and Ajloun. This is precisely why we like this area. We have designed a program that takes you to some of the beautiful areas in the north and you can experience a Jordan in which a tourist is a rare site and the local populations is keen to welcome you to their home for tea to exchange stories and learn more about the you the traveler.

Trekking

image

Our trekking programs involve walking several days with vehicle support for luggage and food. Examples of these programs in Jordan would be the trek from Petra to Rum, or the trek from Dana to Petra, as well as multi day hiking in Wadi Rum. These trips give you the opportunity to traverse dramatic scenery of varied rock and desert terrain, as well as giving you panoramic views. You will often follow ancient routes from the eras of the Nabateans, Romans and others. Today these routes are still used by the Bedouin for shepherding or as shortcuts. Along the way you will experience the diverse flora and fauna of the desert, the rich geological rocks, hidden springs, ancient remains, Bedouin life, and much more.

Aquatrekking is walking in canyon streams. It does not require the use of ropes or technical expertise. As such, it is open to all abilities and requires no special skills beyond trekking.

Jordan has a series of wadis that run west to east, from the mountain range of 1700m height down to the Jordan Valley as low as 400m below Sea Level. Some wadis are dry, but many have hot and cold springs, streams and rivers running through them. They also have rich vegetation of hanging ferns and palms.

Wadi Rum is a world class climbing area discovered by Tony Howard and Di Taylor in 1984. One of the best desert climbing areas in the world, it offers hundreds of routes on sandstone cliffs with multi pitch climbs.

We can organize transfers from the airport to Wadi Rum and arrange such logistic details as accommodation, Bedouin climbing guides, food and transportation.

New climbing areas are also being discovered all over Jordan such as in the north in the Ajloun area.
